An online conveyancing service was launched by Yorkshire Building Society to its borrowers during 2007. It has proved so successful that a new site has been developed in-house and is now being offered to the everyone.
This new price comparison service will offer a customer the ability to get an online quotation from a national network of over 170 solicitors around the country, and to choose one based on price, service or location or a combination of all three. Once instructed online, cases can be tracked 24 hours a day via the internet, with real-time email or SMS alerts. All of the solicitors offering the service offer a ‘no sale, no fee' promise (excluding disbursements). Typically, an online conveyancing quote (excluding disbursements) for a £250k sale and purchase is around £950. With CompareConveyancers.co.uk it is £835 and for a £150k purchase only it would be £388 compared to the typical online figure of £460. David Jackson, Head of E-Commerce for the Society said, "Price comparison websites are extremely popular with the public but their services do not extend to the house buying process. We have increased the numbers of solicitors on the panel and decided to develop the compareconveyancer.co.uk facility so that anyone looking for a solicitor could make use of it. The service is provided in conjunction with eConveyancer, part of the UTD Group, which was formed in 2003 to provide a cutting edge, web based, conveyancing service for financial advisers and estate agents. As a special launch offer anyone instructing a firm from the panel will be entered in a draw to win £500 of shopping vouchers.
